{May 16, 2007}   FLCL Review

Oh FLCL I love you!!

Manga it comes in many forms, but when it’s very popular it because an anime. Now this is not always good, where the anime may be good but leaves out all the things you loved about the manga. So it is rare for an anime to actually be better then the manga was. So with out further ado I give you my review on FLCL Fooly Cooly.

Fooly Cooly is a six episode OVA series, created and directed by Kazuya Tsurumaki and co-produced by Gainax and Production I.G.. The show focuses on a 12 year boy named Nota. Who’s life is normal who says ” nothing ever amazing happens here.” Until one Day He gets hit by a moped driving alien, by the name of Haruko. Haruko thinking she killed Nota gives him CPR. Then hits him in the head with a guitar you know because CPR is not enough you gotta hit them hard! Nota later gets a bumb on his head that won’t stop growing and his life won’t be the same after this.

Nota later has monsters coming out of his head. Which Haruko fights off with her Guitars. She seems to have an untapped source of these Guitars. Nota even has a robot come out of his head which is known as Cantie. He ends up being the used as a house maid. The show has a wild cast of characters. One of the more reasons I loved this show so much. I mean you have Notas dad the perverted writer. Notas, Grandpa a baseball coach and then his friends who are off the wall. Also his girlfriend who is in High School, who knew Notas older brother who you only see pictures of in the show.

Look at it you know you love it!

Notas Brother is a big hot shot baseball player in the states.  Nota and Haruko gather a strong bond in this show. As each episode progress you notice Nota is coming of age. There was so much happening in this show. My favorite episode has to be episode 5 where they have a battle with air soft guns. Nota and Haruko vs Canti and Notas Dad over who gets Haruko. The battle was very intense and funny. More characters start coming into the show in the end and add to the spice. The show pokes fun at alot of other anime which is awesome since you never see that. I don’t wanna say too much about the show with out giving out any spoilers.

Guns for all the boys and girls!

The shows animation is fantastic! The sound track is great, as it’s done by the Pillows. They do every tune in the entire series. Which is awesome since I’m really into their stuff they put out. The voice acting is great! This is one of the few shows where I liked both the subbed and dubbed versions which is pretty insane, seeing how you’ll get annoyed real fast by the dubbed version, wassup Naruto! Overall this show was a great experience. One you can easily watch over again and again this it’s only an 6 ova series. Well until then this is Shawn out.

                                Why so angry? haha!!

The second episode was another fine episode. This time introducing a new character onto the show Mine, Ryuutarou Mine is a violin student who favors the electric violin and whose father owns the Uraken Chinese food restaurant near school. This guy thinks very highly of himself. Just Mine needs a Piano accompanist, after having Chiaki as one and walking out on him. Chiaki had the best line this episode as he walked out on Mime, saying “My god you suck.”

So Mime is desperate. While he is playing his electric Violen somebody trips over his cord. He storms out to see who tripped over his cord and he finds Nodame with a Rice Ball on the floor. She starts to have some battle cry for her dropped food. Mime notices Piano book on her and ask her to help him? Of Course Nodame says she’ll help him.

                                        haha PWNED!!! LOL!! WTF!!

Nodame later meets up with Chiaki, she tells him about the person she is gonna accompany so Chiaki helps her out with her sheet music all night. The next day she plays it great and Mime starts getting excited like the guy won the lottery or got chosen to be a bata tester for Halo 3. So Mime takes Nodame to his resurant to thank her. Chiaki hears her and looks in a window and walks off to his place. He starts listening to music and somebody starts ringing the door bell repeatedly. Chiaki assuming it’s Nodame he storms out screaming “You eyesore!” to his ex-girlfriend Sakio.

Nodame sees this in shock “you have a girlfend?” This was very amusing, also a good laugh. Good times, good times haha!! The next day nodame can’t play she has no soul, no life, excitment in her playing as she did the other day. As Mime tells her. Nodame tells Mime about Chiaki and he trys to help her. She tells him about Sakio and he tells her “you’ve already lost.” Talk about getting kicked while down.

So Mime tells her he will help her in order to steal Chiaki away from Sakio she needs to use the one weapon all girls have, and thats Drum rollss please… (drums rolling) SEX APPEAL. Yeah thats right sex appeal. So Mime starts fluffing her up, trying to make her look good. Chiaki comes and he’s not liking it. I wouldn’t blame him if I saw this.

                                             Talk about Sex appeal haha!!

Chiaki says to Mime “I could teach you.” after showing how little Mime really knew about good Violen playing because he was all high and mighty. Chiaki played his sheet with ease and it pissed off Mime so he stormed off. So Chiaki and Nodame spend another all nighter going over the music this time from a request Chiaki is playing Violen. The very next day Nodame unleashes on Mime with some great insults to him from Chiaki. Yeah revenge! Kick him while hes down lol!!

When it comes to showtime Mime sees Chiaki with Nodame wrapped in blankets like a burrito supreme because she is sick, and I guess if somebody is sick you wrap them up like a burrito surpreme. So Chiaki ends up playing with Mime and Mime does great! His friends tell him they want to get back together for some rock. After dissing him and he says ” no way I’m moving on to classical music now.”

Overall it was a fine episode Mime is a somewhat annoying character, but he had his moments. I’ll list three right now. Starting with one Mime tells Nodame to use Sex AppealL this was funnynuff said. Two Mime getting dissed by Nodame: Now to get dissed sucks, but to drag it on and on damn! I almost felt bad for Mime almost haha!! Three Mime gets to denny the band getting back together: This is the best ending for the show. I mean nobody took Mime serious during the entire show. But I wouldn’t either, for a muscian who acts so high and mighty had to learn the hard way and at the end got the last say and it was Great!!

Until then this is Shawn out.

{May 11, 2007}   Nodame Cantabile episode 1

Shinichi Chiaki is the top piano student at the Momogaoka College of Music and an excellent violinist, but Chiaki doesn’t care about playing these instruments as much as he dreams of someday being a conuctor. Chiaki is the best Piano player at his school and thinks very little of everyone else. After getting in and argument with his Music Teacher and pissing him off he gets dropped from his class and sent to a new class. While Chiaki is walking down the hall he hears an uncoordinated version of Beethoven’s Piano Sonata, Pathetigue.

Later Chiaki meets with his Girlfriend Saiko who tells him he should ask his teacher for to let him back in his class. Chiaki refuses and his Girlfriend dumps him saying prob one of the best lines on the first episode ” I Hate Losers!” right after dumping him haha!! You gotta love stuff like that.  So Chiaki gets drunk and ends up sleeping outside of his apartment. Now this is when the show really starts taking off.

Chiaki gets moved into a room by a girl who has the messiest room but, the cleanest Piano. Surrounded by piles of garbage, boxes of trash and etc.. Chiaki not knowing what is going on runs out all frantic and scared. He finds out this girl lives right next door to him. The next day he is at school where of course the girl finds him and embarasses the crap out by wearing his belt.

Chiaki acts like it’s not his which was very amusing. Chiaki later finds out since getting dropped he is in a class called class of failures. Chiaki later finds out the girls name is Noda. But she has people call her Nodame. Chiaki is smoking and gets hit with an awful stench and he finds out it’s coming from right next door to him. So he rings the door bell like crazy and the door opens and slam! Right in his face!

He rushes in and ask for cleaning supplies and goes into this cleaning frenzy. He later ends up helping her with the Piano and not to mention making her Dinner. What a guy haha!!  The next day he finds his new teacher has teamed him up with his student Nodame. Chiaki is outragged.

Chiaki and Nodame have to play Mozart’s Sonata in D Major for Two Pianos. So they take two minutes to go over it and play. Within Two measures Chiaki is beating Nodame for already messing up the song. Which she continues to do and finds out she can only play music from hearing it and not reading it. So later Chiaki is having her play and improve her playing.  Chiaki tells her afterwards ” your head stinks.” Nodame replies ” Really? But I’m sure I washed it four days ago.” Chiaki  storms into a frantic outrage and  washes her hair, even blow drys it for her. Awww how nice.

The very next day they play great! Chiaki is walking with Nodame and she later confesses she loves him which Chiaki does not approve. He wants nothing to do with her but yet he’s stuck with her for the time being. Overall the first episode was great! Full of good music, laughs and good opening and closing music for the show. I expect the episode to be good if not better then what I saw today. Until then This is shawn out.
